Who is Susan Robison?
Susan Robison, Ph.D. is a psychologist, author, and faculty development consultant. Susan’s faculty development workshops and coaching help faculty improve their time and stress management, leadership, work-life balance, productivity and communication skills. Her book, The Peak Performing Professor: A Practical Guide to Productivity and Happiness, has been selected for faculty book clubs all over North America.
Susan’s book for academic leaders entitled Coaching Skills for Academic Leaders: Bringing Out the Best in Yourself and Others is currently in production with Routledge. In addition to authoring those two faculty development books, Susan served as a co-editor of a special issue of the Journal of Excellence in College Teaching in 2017 on Coaching and Leadership and co-authored an early faculty development book, Thinking and Writing in College with Barbara Walvoord et al.
Susan is a frequent workshop presenter at higher education conferences and colleges and universities on “The Peak Performing Professor,” “Coaching Skills for Academic Leaders,” and “Emotional Labor.” Her workshops have been described as “transformational” and “life-changing.”
A former academic department chair and professor of psychology at Notre Dame of Maryland University, Susan has provided leadership consultation work to non-profits and universities. For forty years, she and her husband co-directed the Center for Extraordinary Marriage where they provided counseling to individuals and couples. To maintain her own personal life balance, Susan enjoys ballroom dancing, quilting, traveling, and hiking. She rates her non-work roles of wife, mother, grandmother, friend and volunteer as important as her work roles.
